Now for something completely different....
My next project is a Kukri blade (Thanks for the blade, KnifeKits), that I want to use either bone or an Ivory Micarta for (Depends on price, donchaknow).
But...for this knife, I want to paint a custom design on each side of the handle, and then coat it with a clear sealant that will A) Not crack or decay easily, and B) Not ruin the painted design. I know that typically, if you want a design on bone or Micarta, scrimming is the way it's usually done, but I've never done any scrimshaw before, and can afford to screw it up. I KNOW I can draw and paint the design on. So what kind of paint and then sealer would y'all suggest? |

Not sure about the paint but I'm sure an automotive grade clear coat would hold up. I bet if you took the finished handle to a body shop they would clear it for next to nothing.
