Scrimshaw
I've been asked to show some images of my scrimshaw. The first image is a Peregrine falcon scene on one of the first model #14 CDT Randalls. I apologize for the poor image quality but this is a scan of a photograph. We didn't have digital cameras back then!
The second image is an Osprey scene with the Cape Henry Light. This lighthouse is our city's symbol and in 1792 was the first lighthouse authorized by the new United States government. |

I finally had the honor of commissioning Rick to scrimshaw a Randall, which was a #5-6" that was to be given to my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary. The knife itself has the following five chargeable options: stainless steel, two lines of blade etching, nickel silver single hilt, Stag handle, and wrist thong. I asked Rick to scrimshaw the head of a coyote, which turned out great. I also had Greg Gutcher make a special sheath for the knife, which has a rattlesnake inlay and keeper strap.
Below are photos that I took before presenting the knife to my parents: BTW, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday. I was there, in South Dakota, along with my (older) brother and (younger) sister. Many thanks, Rick! This turned into a gift that my parents will treasure for the rest of their lives. Hi Roderick and Ken!
Welcome both of you to the Knife Network! Ken I see you've been a member here for awhile but it's great to see your first post. And what a way to make an impression with Rick's fabulous scrim. The sheath ain't too shabby either. How thoughtful of you to come up with such a special gift for you parent's 50th anniversary! Congratulations to them for achieving such an amazing milestone! I'm sure they'll love it. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |
