How do I weld to a piece of damascus?

I was given a nice piece of damascus the other day that is made from 1095 and 15n20.
The piece is only 5 inches and I want to weld a piece of 1095 to it for the handle area. I want to know if I can weld it with my mig welder or is there a better way?

Thanks

There may be a better way like Tig as Geno suggests but if you have Mig, use Mig. I use a plain old arc welder and it works fine until that glorious day in the future when I can afford to buy a Mig or a Tig ...

Ditto on what they said but use a mild steel rather than 1095.

And if you weld the mild steel on before the heat treat as I do then the mild steel doesn't harden which is a bonus if you need to drill it later ...

Any time you're welding a high carbon steel like 1095 it's very good practice to temper after welding .The heat affected zone will contain martensite and that should be tempered.
