Remember This One? (Off Topic)

Thought it might be fun to do a thread of music videos. I'm just right clicking on the video and copying the "embed code".

I'd like to kick it off with this one, featuring the late Tom Petty and Prince.

That’s a great one. Never knew Prince could play guitar like that. When he finishes his solo, he throws his guitar up in the air...and it doesn’t come back down...?

Before he died, Tom Petty said he had no explanation for the vanishing guitar.

As to Warren Zevon and Bruce playing together, that song Tai put up was on "The Wind," Warren's final album. He was dying of lung cancer, and rather than taking treatment that wasn't guaranteed to extend his life any more than if he didn't take it, he decided to make one last record as his swan song musical statement. He brought in a lot of friends, and musicians he respected to play with him. It's still a hard record to listen to for me, out of all his recorded music. Billy Bob Thornton was on it too. If his cover of Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door," doesn't give you the chills, or bring a tear to your eye, you should check your own pulse; you might just be knocking too.

All great choices, Tai. Government Mule's cover of "War Pigs" is a must hear.

Cool. I didn't know that.

"Carmelita" is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, Zevon tune. Linda Ronstadt also did a nice version of it. He was a brilliant songwriter.

I just heard the sad news. May he rest in peace.

In memory of Eddie Van Halen.

There are many great guitar players who have passed on. Yes, Eddie Van Halen's passing is big news right now. Of the classics, there's George Harrison, Jerry Garcia, and Jimi Hendrix, of course. But there are some who were also great, who just never got the airplay or the celebrity.

How about Rory Gallagher, or Duane Allman, or Mike Bloomfield, or Stevie Ray Vaughn, or Gary Moore of Thin Lizzie? As has been said in another post, Frank Zappa has to be recognized too. Lest we forget Johnny Winter, perhaps the fastest guitar player ever.

And if we move into the Blues genre, we could burn up the server listing the greats. Please feel free to list your favorites who are no longer with us.
