Etching and attaching a handle

If I wanted to etch a blade, when it came time to attach the handle do you just glue it over the etching on the Tang or do you try and sand the Tang down and stop right where the Handle would end and then glue the handle on?

You would rough up the metal for the glue anyway so pitting isn't much of a problem. If you're doing full tangs you will end up having to re-etch the outer perimeter of the tang anyway so you'll have a chance to remove any pitting that might be in that area...

I guess it depends on the handle material but with g10 I have etched a blade after everything dunked it in ferric handle and all. but most of the time do it before and as ray said re etch what you grind off on the tang.....this is something I didn't think of when using cera coat ...one of those DUH moments for sure
