I posted this on the other knife forum but thought it worth repeating here. While trying to add water resistence to a sweat shield I put on an existing holster for friend, accidently found a way to obtain a nice honey brown color.
A couple of pic's...
Nothing earth shaking about that
The leather was cleaned then coated in a thick coat of Pecard's neutral color Leather Dressing. I used a hair dryer to heat the Pecards and leather until the Pecards turned liquid. Then a couple more careful passes of the hair dryer caused the pores to open up and suck the dressing in like a sponge. ~Careful with the heat though, or you will get hardening.~ After sitting overnight, the leather took on the tone you see in the images. That wasn't my goal, water resistence was, but a nice result anyhow! I can only guess that there was a chemical reaction between the Pecards and leather brought on by the heat. A couple of coats of Super Sheen, a nylon buffing and back to my friend. He was quite happy with the result.
Best, Lee
